The Diversity Salad Bowl Open Mind

VOLUME 2

In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech in hopes of racial unity. Now, nearly forty-five years later, Rev. Dr. Albert R. Reddick presents his dream come true – his model for overcoming racism. In this book, he merged his writings from his two books Becoming One and The I and I Model for Overcoming Racism.

Diversity has reached the shores, institutions, and communities of America. In order to maintain unity, America must end racism. You can read about Dr. Reddick’s findings and analysis in overcoming racism, which is the fruit of his years of research, studies, and personal experiences while fighting against unlawful discrimination.

The issue of race is a fact of life, a major problem in America. For many people race is not simply an issue to be discussed in a remote, abstract manner, but is a burning, turbulent, harmful, hurtful question that impedes impinges upon, and controls their daily existence. For these people, the issue of race is a priority, since it controls their present and determines their future. No wonder a discussion of the race draws such a passionate response that many who have not experienced racism often find it difficult to comprehend.

Scripture does not teach that white men are to have dominion over other races of men/ or over women. Even the United States Constitution reads that all men are created equal and “they have certain inalienable rights, and among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. “Racism will continue to function despite new legislation. Therefore, new approaches must be implemented to lessen the racial divide in America and the church.

3.

Victims of oppression are sitting down with the oppressors seeking ways to remedy past injustices and forge ahead with equal justice for all. America must support these revolutions. However, America must first be mature enough to look at its historic past and take ownership of its evil (collective evil in the institution of slavery), with its detrimental ongoing havoc heaped upon African Americans. Our hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go out into sometimes hostile environments declaring hostility toward racism and poverty. With this powerful commitment, we shall boldly challenge the status quo and unjust racist society.
